General rule of thumb, is starting from closest to the CPU, do 2 and 4. slot online mpo some MBs specifically (or at least used to) require that slots 2/4 be used first for dual channel, followed by 1/3 i don't know if this is still the case nowadays, but i'd recommend still following that rule of thumb, if not for anything else than also being more clearance
